Description

The hundred-apartment tenement house known as Rákosi-Yard was the most impressive building in the “Csikágó”-quarter, where doctors, factory managers, officials and actors lived. The ground floor of the house was originally designed as a cinema, over the decades it functioned either as a theatre or a cinema. During World War II, a shooting range was placed on the roof of the building, from which the whole area could be kept under fire. The house inspired the novels of Zsigmond Móricz and Pál Békés, as well as several films.
