Data and description

The 1963 master plan of the rehabilitation of Józsefváros called for a complete redevelopment of this area, with a 40 to 50 meter wide road on the site of the present-day Szigony Street, known as ‘Szigony Boulevard’ – the torso of which is the huge parking lot on Szigony Road. The redevelopment was never completed, leaving the housing estate as a memento of a failed urban planning experiment. This long and infamous street later played an important role in Hungarian hip-hop.
